Free Admission to the Royal Tyrrell Museum on Family Day
If you are looking for something fun to do this Family Day Weekend, the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology is offering free admission for the entire family. This includes all of the exhibits plus Storytime and two video presentations throughout the day. In addition, children aged two and up will be able to make themselves a dinosaur craft from11:00 – 4:00 on Family Day (Monday). You might also choose to register for Fossil Casting. There is a $10 fee and the spots fill up quickly so it’s best to register upon arrival.
Our family loves to visit Tyrrell. The exhibits are excellent and include interactive panels where the kids can learn more about dinosaurs and fossils.

During the warmer months, beginning on the May long weekend, the museum runs additional outdoor interactive programs. These include hikes and digs for an additional fee plus free Science Breaks and video presentations and the popular Raptor Assembly, as seen on ‘Amazing Race Canada’.
The Calgary Herald article about the challenge says it took the married doctors an hour and a half to put the model together (it seemed so much longer…I thought I would scream if I heard Brett say “Holl, Holl, focus…Holl, Holl, c’mon” even one more time). The children in our group managed to do it a lot faster and with a lot more smiles.

The kids love to help figure out how things all fit together (and have almost as much fun taking it apart again!)
Kids love the dinosaurs
Royal Tyrrell is an absolute must do if you have little dinosaur lovers in your family!
If you live in the Calgary area or are planning a visit, I’ve included information on Dinosaur Provincial Park in a previous post, Jurassic Badlands. It’s a great place for families with clean facilities and many activities for all ages. This spot would be a great addition to your Southern Alberta road trip!
