All-Bran Muffins – Blogging Through the Alphabet

I decided to start off my Blogging Through the Alphabet series with my favourite bran muffins. Of course, I could have done just muffins under the letter M but then it wouldn’t have reminded me of my gramma’s best bran muffins, hot from the oven with a generous piece of cold butter slowly melting into each half.

All-Bran Muffins

Now, these were not some secret family recipe bran muffins, no they were simply made from the recipe on the side of the All-Bran box. I was so upset the first time I purchased a new box and my recipe was no longer there! Thankfully, the Kellogg’s Company has seen fit to provide this original recipe on their website.

I love that this recipe contains just simple ingredients that I usually have on hand so I can quickly whip up a batch whether for breakfast or even an afternoon treat (perfect with a cold glass of milk or a hot cup of tea.)

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups Kellogg’s® All-Bran® Original cereal
  • 1 1/4 cups fat-free milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

For directions, please visit the Kellogg’s website.

There are a number of variations of bran muffins on the site, including one for Country Bran Muffins, made with buttermilk and raisins, so delicious.

County Bran Muffins

I remember my gramma always made her muffins with shortening and molasses rather sugar and cooking oil so I started searching for a variation in this recipe and found this one for All-Bran – Bran ‘N Molasses Muffins. I love the richness that molasses adds to the flavor.

 INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup Kellogg’s® All-Bran® Original cereal
  • OR
  • 1 cup Kellogg’s® All-Bran® Bran Buds® cereal
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup light molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup raisins or chopped dates

The directions for this recipe can be found on the All-Bran site.

Both these recipes are quick to put together and equally quick to disappear, at least they are in our house. So delicious and healthy too.

  1. I used to make All-Bran Muffins way back when we were first married! I had forgotten all about it. Now, 34 years later I think I’ll bake up a batch to surprise my husband and introduce our youngest children to them. Thank you for a little side trip down memory lane 🙂
