We’ve all seen the commercials on television of frantic mothers cheering about their children going back to school (EJ laughs at the one where the mom drains the pool with the kids still in it) but I’m pretty sure those moms are thankful for different reasons than I am when it comes time for back to school each fall.
First, since those of us who homeschool know, this time of the year does not mean we will be sending young ones off to school while we either head off to work or get things caught up around the house. No, for us this is the time for trying out new curriculums and getting kids back into the groove of a new school year. Even those of us who don’t take a complete break from school this is a busy and exciting time as our youngsters move up in grade and, for some, middle or high school.
Of course, this is a time to be thankful as well. Thankful that we are able to make the choice of homeschooling for our families and having the opportunity to spend this time with them. To teach them as we choose and ensure that they are prepared for college, university, and adulthood.
I am especially thankful that I am able to spend this time with our grandson. This isn’t something every grandparent has and after being able to stay home with our girls, to do the same with EJ is a blessing.
I am ever grateful that I can share with him our family’s history like my gramma did with me during our drives (the car is a great place to talk I find). EJ says he wants his little brother to join us once he’s a little older. That would be just fine with me.
I certainly do have a lot to be thankful for.
